Calculate the Total Score
Calculating the score in a game of Gin Rummy is quite easy, first you start with two columns, one for Player A and one for Player B. You would write down in Player A column the total score for the player, for example we will use 251. You then would add the bonus for winning the game, which is usually 250. You then would add to these totals the difference between Player B’s score and the required game winning total of 250. For instance, if Player B had a score of 224, you would subtract the number of Player B’s boxes in the first column. In this case, Player A would be awarded an additional 8 boxes valued at 25 points a piece for a total of 200. This obviously would change depending on the exact number of points that Player A and Player B, this is just an example of how this would play out.
The second column for the game is calculated very similar to the way that the first column is done. So for example if Player A has a winning score of 279, you would add 250 for winning the game. You would then add the difference between the player with the winning score and the player with the losing score. We will use the number 164 for the losing score and in this scenario; the player would be awarded 7 boxes at a value of 175.
You then begin the third and final column which is also done very similar to the first two columns. The only difference is that the scores are always worth double in column 3, which will result in significantly higher scores in the third column. It is also important to keep all the columns as divisible by 500 to make scoring easier. For instance a score of 6352 would be scored as 6500 and a score of 6092 would be scored as 1000. This makes it easier when playing for money to pay out an even amount.
